I was searching the web for old maps of Africa, when I came across all these cool resrouces for kids! Little Luc is currently obsessed with maps since Dad started travelling more and more, so I plan on doing something with these resources:-

1. Owl & Mouse

This site provides interactive maps to help your kids learn about continents, countries, capitals, borders and other geographical aspects. The coolest feature is printable maps that fit on one page or spread out over 64 pages. Great!

2. National Geographic’s Kids and the new Little Kids sites.

On the Kids’ site there is a map machine, aimed at older children and parents. It contains interactive maps with quizzes and fun facts. For the younger ones, clear pictures with captions you can read to them, with parent tips and resources. Certainly worth checking out.

I think these resources would be a great aid in preparing for a trip somewhere.

Baby Equipment Hire September 13, 2007

I don’t know what’s worse at airports; dragging your children around or dragging all their equipment around that takes up all those precious kilo’s available for some holiday shopping.

What we’ve done in the past, is to hire equipment at our ultimate destination and I can tell you, it makes a huge difference to the already frail family dynamic, if you don’t have to struggle with essential, but unwanted, equipment.

Babylite offers a full equipment rental service that looks pretty comprehensive and they deliver in and around Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.

It is filled with flying tips for small babies based on personal experience and I plan on reading up on it all when we face our first plane trip.

Secrets to a Fab Family Vacation July 30, 2007

Gosh I didn’t even look like this on holiday before children, nevermind After Children.

We’ve just returned from a holiday on the beach which just confirmed, that really, holidays with children can’t really be called a holiday.

It was a great holiday, just not what I’m used to calling a holiday as I would’ve called it BC (Before Children). It’s really just the same stuff, different venue.

However, if you’re planning a holiday, Parents.com has some good tips (including this ultra-glamorous picture of a model that clearly doesn’t have children. If she had, the baby would’ve been wearing the hat, hers would still be lost somewhere in all the bags the porter is struggling to get to the room.)

Travelling with Toddlers July 1, 2007

A lot of my friends agree; travelling with young children on a cross-continent plane trip is a daunting undertaking. One of my friends has actually taken the plunge and is undertaking the pioneering task for all of us by flying to France with a 2.5 year old and an 11 month old this week. We’re thinking of you Karlien.

I on the otherhand, when faced with the unknown, go on the prowl on the internet and Swissmiss mentioned this DVD which I am immediately adding to my library, judging by the rave reviews on Amazon.
